VORONOI TESSELLATION — SPACE DIVIDED BY PROXIMITY
VISUAL STYLE: Voronoi tessellation — the mathematical partitioning of space where every point belongs to the region of its nearest seed. The geometry of proximity. It appears in giraffe markings, dragonfly wings, cell biology, urban geography, and crystal structure. A mathematical rule that nature discovered independently in dozens of contexts, rendered here as pure luminous geometry.
COLOUR PALETTE: Deep black or deep navy as the ground. Each Voronoi cell filled with vivid, saturated colour — neighbouring cells always contrasting. The seed point of each cell glows brightest — pure white or the most saturated version of the cell's colour. The cell boundaries — the perpendicular bisectors between neighbouring seeds — in bright white or electric gold, precise and geometric. The overall palette is vivid and high-contrast — this is not a subtle geometry.
CELL STRUCTURE: Each cell is a convex polygon whose interior is closer to its seed point than to any other seed. Near seed points, cells are roughly circular; far from seed points, cells become elongated and irregular. The cells tile the plane perfectly — no gaps, no overlaps.
DYNAMIC SEEDS: As seed points move, cells reorganise continuously — boundaries shift, cells grow and shrink, some cells disappear entirely when their seed is absorbed into a neighbour's region. The reorganisation is continuous and smooth.
NATURAL ANALOGUES: The same mathematical structure appears at different scales — shown simultaneously or in sequence: a cellular foam where each bubble is a Voronoi cell; a giraffe's coat pattern; a cracked mudflat where each patch is a Voronoi cell around a drying point; a crystal grain structure.
THREE DIMENSIONS: The tessellation extended into 3D — Voronoi cells become polyhedral volumes, their boundaries shared faces. The 3D structure is shown as a luminous foam of polyhedra, each glowing with its own colour.
MOVEMENT: Seeds drift slowly and the tessellation reorganises fluidly around them.
No photographs. No real organisms or geographic features. No real people. Pure Voronoi geometry, pure proximity partitioning, pure mathematical tessellation throughout.
