WIND FIELD — GLOBAL ATMOSPHERIC FLOW

WIND FIELD — GLOBAL ATMOSPHERIC FLOW

VISUAL STYLE: Earth's atmospheric wind patterns made visible — the global circulation system rendered as luminous colour streams on a dark planetary surface. The Hadley cells, the jet streams, the trade winds, the polar vortex — the entire atmospheric engine of the planet shown as flowing light. The aesthetic of earth.nullschool.net elevated to art.

COLOUR PALETTE: Deep black or very deep navy as the ground — space, or the ocean surface at night. Wind speed encoded in colour: calm air in deep blue and indigo — nearly invisible, barely there. Moderate winds in vivid cyan and electric teal — the bulk of the visible flow. Strong winds in bright green-gold. Jet streams in brilliant white-hot — the rivers of air six miles up, flowing at 200mph. The colour is the data — the faster the wind, the brighter and warmer the colour.

FLOW LINES: Thousands of flow lines trace the movement of air parcels through the atmosphere. They curve and spiral following the Coriolis effect — clockwise in the southern hemisphere, anticlockwise in the northern. They converge at the intertropical convergence zone, diverge at the subtropical highs, curl around low-pressure systems in graceful spirals.

JET STREAMS: The defining visual feature — narrow, extremely fast rivers of air at the tropopause, snaking across the mid-latitudes in complex meanders. They are the brightest, most vivid elements in the composition — luminous white-gold threads crossing the globe.

VORTICES: Low-pressure systems appear as tight spirals of converging flow lines, bright at their centre where wind speeds are highest. High-pressure systems appear as gentle outward spirals, calmer and dimmer.

MOVEMENT: The flow is constant and alive. Flow lines stream continuously. Jet streams meander. Vortices develop and dissipate.

No photographs. No political borders. No land-sea distinction beyond implied scale. Pure atmospheric flow, pure wind field, pure global circulation throughout.
